In this article I would like to share my one of the school incidents with you. It happened in 2005. That time I was studying 5th Std. Now I come into the topic directly.
One day in my 5th class, my science teacher started to take a class about Planets and our solar system. This was the ever first time I came to know about the planets and space. But I had already known about tamil astrology little bit in that time due to my family background.
On that day evening, I compared with my textbook planet's name and with astrology planets name. Before that my teacher told the class that 9 planets revolve around the Sun in our solar system. The planets were Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
I wrote down the astrological 9 planets and compared to science 9 planets. First one is the Sun in astrology. But In science the Sun is a star. But our ancient people thought that the sun is also a planet. So they called the sun also a planet.
Next one is Moon in tamil astrology. But in science, the moon is a natural satellite of the Earth. But from Earth our ancient people saw the moon like the sun. So they thought that the Moon was also a planet. But instead of the Moon I took Earth. Because where there is the moon there is also Earth. Because the moon is revolving around the earth. So I took the moon as Earth in our solar system.
Next one is Sevvai (Mars). And in astrology sevvai is the god planet whose colour is Red. Similarly Mars which is also in red colour is near to our Earth.
Next one Buthan in this astrology list. I compared that one with mercury which is near to the Sun. In tamil astrology, both soorian(sun) and buthan(mercury) will travel in almost the same box. From Earth point of view it's also correct which means Sun and Mercury are near to each other.
The next one is Viyazhan which is compared to Jupiter and Velli is compared to Venus. And then finally Sani is compared to Saturn as well. Hereafter the main issue is coming.
In science we had 3 planets as leftovers which are Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. But in Indian Astrology only Raaghu and Kethu as leftovers.
But in as tamil astrology Raaghu and Kethu are planet gods who swallowed the sun and moon in eclipse. But I compared those two planets as Uranus and Neptune. They might not see those two planets in the time of eclipse. So that they might conclude that the sun and moon are hidden by those two planets. so they said the story of the eclipse with Raagu and Kethu. But actually they are Uranus and Neptune.
As indian astrological theory, I completed all the planets. But in science there was Pluto as leftovers. So I concluded that Pluto did not belong to our solar system.
The next morning in class I told my teacher that Pluto did not belong to our solar system in front of the whole class. But my teacher did not accept my thought and scientists only could decide by research. I did not say anything and left that topic.
But one event happened in the next year. In August 2006 the International Astronomical Union (IAU) downgraded the status of Pluto to that of “dwarf planet.” And scientists concluded that Pluto would not be treated as a Planet hereafter. And my thought was also right.
Finally I did not write this to say I knew about that before the scientist announcement. The only reason behind this article is that our ancient people were so talented in space research without any advanced instruments. Yes. They might have some wrong beliefs. But actually they had Fully scientific ideas. But later their ideas were turned to wrong belief. So we will trust our elders with the right reason for their beliefs. Because they might give any advanced ideas which are not invented till now. So, we will take their ideas for our future research, not just for the sole reason of antiquity.
